This last shot had a huge impact difference on target, as is should, it was on average 125 feet per second slower. Here is the break down of feet per second for the 5 shots: The trigger on this rifle is set around 1.5 pounds. From here I would stop the breath and start the trigger press. When I started firing the third group I was making sure I had constant technique: Center the crosshairs on the target, take a deep breath in, (crosshairs would move down on the target) as I released the breath the crosshairs would settle back the the center of the target. The third group I fired was the group that would start our “experiment”. I’ve done so much shooting without the chrono that for the first two, 5 shot groups I was so focused on the grouping that I completely forgot about the chrono. I’d always been told when testing loads you build for centerfire rifles that a chronograph is key and I found that out this weekend.

Little back story here, I’ve had a chronograph for around 6 years and I’ve never used it. Gotta love it when you can get it right on the first go. This actually was the combination we would end up sticking with. With some information from the great folks over at we re-torqued the barrel screws in at 30 inch pounds, and both action screws were torqued at 24 inch pounds. Our testing would be at 50 yards, which is typical sight in for our squirrel rifles. Barrel is threaded and length is 20 inches.

It had recently been pillar and glass bedded to free float the barrel. Our goal was to tweak this 455 until we could achieve some consistency. The last time we shot this rifle the groups opened up and we couldn’t understand why. Brad brought over his threaded CZ 455 to tighten up before his suppressor arrives for squirrel season. Be safe, have fun and we’ll see you here next week for another edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday.A simple day of sight in turned into some ammo testing we weren’t really expecting. The Seismic Ammo bullets appear to be coated lead which could lead to buildup inside suppressors compared to jacketed rounds, but cleaning every 500 to 1,000 rounds should alleviate most concerns. The advantages over other heavy 9mm rounds is that the bullet appears to expand very nicely and the two-part case allows for higher pressures which results in higher velocities compared to brass cased ammo. Bumping up against $1.50/round, it’s definitely at the top of the 9mm price spectrum. Honestly, with the 185gr bullet weight, the ~950f/s velocities and reliable cycling, the only reasons I could find against running the Seismic Ammo subsonic 9mm in your suppressed pistols and carbines is cost. Will not split, chip, crack or grow (stretch) and are fully-reloadable with Shell Shock’s custom reloading dies.Offer greater corrosion resistance, tensile strength (2x stronger) and elasticity than brass.Offer greater lubricity and will not abrade, clog, foul, wear-out or damage breach and ejector mechanisms. The Seismic rounds are built off the Shellshock Technologies two-piece metal cases (Aluminum & Nickel alloy) that allow for much higher pressures than brass while being 50% lighter.
